HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 10/13/07 — Humiliation, served piping hot with a dash of sanity, as clueless chefs are roasted to perfection by tyrant chef Gordon Ramsay. Ramsay, who unhinged amateur chefs on the Fox cooking-based reality series Hell's Kitchen, can be just as tough on professional chefs. A big difference…these chefs deserve it. In Kitchen Nightmares he bravely, or perhaps foolishly, samples the food before inspecting the kitchen. After one restaurant owner boasted to Ramsay about the cleanliness of her kitchen, a check later reveals appalling conditions. After Ramsay screams at the incompetent chef for serving him rotten food, the weasel won't even taste Ramsay's food. He should have.

Ramsay's Manhattan restaurant, "Gordon Ramsay at the London", was awarded a rare two-star Michelin rating on Monday and on Tuesday was named the top newcomer in the annual Zagat restaurant survey. All three of his London restaurants hold Michelin stars. However, Ramsay didn't set out to be a chef. "After three years at Glasgow Rangers I suffered quite a serious leg injury", says Ramsay. "So I gave up the football and went back to college to complete a course in hotel management and haven't looked back since."

The British version of the show, Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares, premiered in 2004. While the bad chefs in British version were reproachable, they seem princely compared to the bad chefs Ramsay finds in America. In the first episode, a makeover of a family restaurant called Peter's, reveals that Peter likes to take money from the till. He steals from his own sister and parents who are co-owners of the family restaurant! And, Peter literally eats the restaurant's profits by taking food prepared for the customers and eating it himself in the kitchen. Ramsay works a miracle to makeover this wannabe New Jersey goodfella, taking him from palooka to a nice guy and thus saving his restaurant and family.

Can you take the heat? Watch Kitchen Nightmares on Fox, Wednesdays at 9pm. Want more time in the kitchen? See the British version, Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares, on BBC America, Thursdays at 8pm.
